This fall marks the 5th year of serving students and teachers in schools with contemplative practices. Our offerings now directly involve 22 different classrooms effecting over 500 students from kindergarten to 8th grade. Happily, these programs have created momentum in other areas of the schools by inspiring social workers and other teachers to independently integrate mindfulness into the day increasing the benefit of actively cultivating the heart and mind to at least 750 students.
In addition to working directly with students, we have created an initiative to support teachers in contemplative practice before the school day. Every week we are collaborating with teachers at Wood River High School and in the new year we hope to provide support to teachers in this way at 3 other schools.
With 3.7 million teachers and 55 million students enrolled in K-12 schools in the United States, we believe this work will be a primary catalyst for social transformation.
